In 2010, Asia was home to 12 of the world’s 23 megacities. This rapid urbanisation—projected to be at a faster clip than that experienced by North America and Europe—is expected to continue, bringing Asia’s urban population from the current 43 percent to 50 percent in 2025. The dramatic rise in urban population necessitates an equally dramatic increase in energy capacity and sustainable water and waste management. Meeting this energy demand will be one of the major challenges for the region’s cities in the coming decades. Given that many cities in Asia are being built from scratch to accommodate the population influx from rural areas, this presents the perfect opportunity to integrate smart design within city planning.
The regional Smart Urban Megatrend Summit (S.U.M.S) 2014 will gather a panel of elite speakers representing industry leaders and prominent organisations to talk about top smart megacities. Aiming to activate more smart mega cities within the region, S.U.M.S 2014 will integrate digital frontier to boost urban economy and efficiency to the next level.
